Many of us are just like that man. We have experienced so much disappointment that we find it hard to believe that God will come through for us. Negative evidence counteracts what we know about God, and we struggle to maintain our expectation that God will come through for us. Because something went wrong in the past, we expect that something will go wrong again.
But we must overcome negative evidence if we are to experience victory. So, how do we overcome negative evidence? I would suggest that you keep in mind this one fact: because you are God’s child, He has chosen your life to display His greatness. That being the case, He will turn things around for you.
Consider the words of Apostle Peter. The Amplified Translation says it best.
“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a consecrated nation, a [special] people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies [the wonderful deeds and virtues and perfections] of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.”
(1 Peter 2:9 AMP)
God has chosen you so you can “proclaim the excellencies [the wonderful deeds and virtues and perfections] of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” Said another way, God chose your life in which to show off! How can He show off if He does not do things in your life that are supposedly beyond your reach? He has got to do something worthy of praise. What better way to display His greatness than to give you victory in the place where you previously experienced defeat?
I went through a period in my life where something would consistently happen to derail my financial plans. I am an accountant, so I know how to set up a budget. I would set up my budget to achieve a particular goal, and something unexpected would occur that would require a significant financial outlay and blow away my budget. But God broke the cycle.
My turnaround came when my old, well-used car broke down (again) months before I would have the down payment to replace it. I did not want to sink anymore money into the old car, but what could I do? As I sat there in the cold, waiting for the tow truck to arrive, I said, “Lord, if you allowed this to happen, I know you have a plan.”
Before the end of the night, the plan unfolded without me having to chase it. And, since that night, every plan I put in place came to fruition, and I have received several unexpected financial windfalls as well. God completely turned my financial situation around.
God intends to get the glory out of your life. It is just a matter of time before you see the greatness of God displayed in your life. Believe that and say it to yourself on a regular basis. The negative evidence will make your testimony even more compelling because God will come through despite all the things working against you, including your history.
Neither the disappointments of your past or your current adverse circumstances are big enough to stop God from doing great things in your life. He chose you and your life for a miracle. So, look for God to blow away your negative evidence.
